As the EV charging industry has been developing rapidly in recent years, its related charging cable specifications are also being improved and updated. This article mainly focuses on UL2263, EN50620, IEC 62893, GB/T33594 to answer the question of what materials are ev charger cables made of?
UL2263 (USA)
This standard applies to the United States of America. The materials used for EV charger cables in this category are mainly thermoplastic and thermoset materials.
- Main Cable Types: EVJ, EV, EVJE, EVE, EVJT, EVT.
- Cable Materials:
- Thermoplastic materials: PVC, TPE.
- Thermoset materials: CR (Chloroprene Rubber), CSM(Chloro-sulphonyl-polyethylene), EP (Ethylene Propylene Rubber), NBR (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Rubber), CPE (Chlorinated Polyethylene).
- The standardized cable insulation is thermoplastic; there is no restriction on the sheath.
EN50620 & IEC62893 (Europe)
These two standards are more suitable for European countries.
- Main Cable Types: H07BZ5-F, H05BZ5-F.
- Materials:
- Insulation: EVI (Electric Vehicle Insulation Type 1 and 2).
- Sheath: Typically TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane, also known as PUR Type EVM).
- The standard insulation material is EVI; the sheath material is generally TPU (PUR TYPE EVM).
GB/T33594 (China)
This standard applies to China and is also used in many countries. Although the standard specifies a number of cable types such as EYU, EF, EFPF, people in China seem to prefer EVC cables for EV charging cables.

- Rubber.
- TPE
- TPU
