What is Type W Cable?

TYPE W Cable is commonly found in the United States and is based on the UL1650 Portable Power Cable standard.

A TYPE W Cable is a cable that has a single conductor or 2 or more conductors. It may or may not include a grounding conductor. TYPE W cables are sometimes referred to as RHH or RHW.

Key Features of Type W Cable

1. Conductor

As it is a type of portable cable, this cable will be dragged and moved around a lot. Obviously, a strand conductor, CL5 or CL6, is chosen to form the cable. The cable is designed to withstand voltages up to 2000V.

2. Insulation

3. Sheathing

For sheathing, we generally use CPE. Although there are also Neoprene, NBR/PVC, CP materials for choice. However, CPE’s flame retardant, UV resistant and friction resistant properties make us prefer this material. In fact, many cable factories prefer CPE.

TYPE W cables were designed  to be used outdoors in portable applications. These cables are favored by many industries for their superior performance outdoors and their wide range of applications. Including:

1. Outdoor stage cables. Its portable power supply, the need for repeated installation and towing, and will be subject to sunlight and rain.

2. Mining cable. As a heavy-duty cable and flame retardant, its tough sheath is very suitable for mining.
