What Wire Colors Represent
Different colors of wire represent different uses of wire. Black, white, green, red, blue, orange, brown, and gray, the color of the insulation sheath on the outside of the wire usually has its own meaning.
Red is the fire wire,
Blue is the zero wire,
Yellow and yellow&green are the ground wires.
The most commonly used colors are yellow, green and red for the phase wires. The fire wire is usually electrified.
Blue wire on behalf of the zero wire, generally the zero wire is not charged, but there are times when it is charged, when the zero wire is broken, this wire is charged.
Three-phase color yellow, green, red, respectively, A, B, C three-phase, blue for the zero wire, yellow&green between the ground wire, wiring yellow, green, red to the fire line, blue to the zero line, yellow and green between the line to the PE protection line or to the equipment shell (shell has been connected to the ground network).
Who Stipulates the Color of the Wire?
In the standard VDE-0293 it is stipulated that when multi-phase conductors are used for wiring.
The phase wires should be easily distinguishable by their color. The phase wires and the zero wire (i.e., the working zero wire N) should be of different colors. Protective earth line (PE line) should be yellow and green colored insulated wire. Zero line (N line) should be light blue insulated wire.
Why Distinguish the Color of the Wire?
Countries to develop standards require different cable regulations to use different colors, mainly to correctly distinguish between the conductor in the phase line, zero line, protective earth line, to prevent the occurrence of electrical accidents caused by faulty operation, resulting in unnecessary casualties and property damage.
International Standard
According to IEC: 60446:
Phase conductor color should be: black, brown, red, orange, yellow, green, purple, gray, white, pink, lime green;
Suggested color for neutral wire: blue;
Suggested color for grounding wire: yellow and green stripes (it is stipulated that this color cannot be used as other conductor colors).
In addition to international standards, each country has its own requirements for phase, zero and ground wires.
