hi是China Cable and Wire Summary

Many of my customers ask me if there is a suitable alternative to the Chinese type of cable. Chinese cables are very cost-effective and sufficient. Here is a summary of China cables and wires.

BV BLV Cable

These symbols are some of the models of wire. The “B” series is categorized as belonging to insulated wires, so the names begin with B. Voltage: 300/500V wire and general-purpose insulated wire.

  • V refers to PVC (polyvinyl chloride), or plastic.
  • L is the code for aluminum core.
  • R means (soft), which refers to increasing the number of conductor strands to make the wire soft.

Wire Types:

  • BV – Copper core polyvinyl chloride insulated wire.
  • BLV – Aluminum core polyvinyl chloride insulated wire.
  • BVR – Copper core PVC insulated soft wire.

All of the above codes are for wire construction: conductor + insulation.

Take 2.5mm² as an example:

  • BV: Diameter of 1.72mm, and 7 strands of 0.68mm.
  • BLV: 1 wire with a diameter of 1.78mm.
  • BVR: 19 strands with a diameter of 0.41mm.
  • RV – PVC insulated connecting flexible wire. It is softer than BVR.
  • RVV – Copper core PVC insulated, PVC sheathed connecting flexible wire, with an additional layer of plastic sheath compared to RV.

In addition, our most commonly used “sheathed wire”:

  • BVVB – Copper core PVC insulated, PVC sheathed flat cable. This is a combination of two BV wires plus a layer of white sheath.

RVV Cable

RVV cable is a single-core or multi-core wire with a sheath layer. The presence of the sheath makes it safer. It consists of several BV or RV wires covered by a polyvinyl chloride sheath. This kind of wire is generally a copper conductor, with an insulation layer on the outside of the wire and an additional protective layer over that.

Commonly used sheathed wires include:

  • RVV
  • BVV
  • RVVB
  • BVVB

Sheathed wires can be divided into two types: hard sheathed wires and soft sheathed wires. Based on the application environment and shape, there are round sheathed wires (generally multi-core) and flat sheathed wires (generally single-core).

YJV Cable

  • Full name: Cross-linked polyethylene insulated, polyvinyl chloride sheathed electric cable (Y – polyethylene, J – cross-linked, V – polyvinyl chloride sheathed).
  • Number of cores: Single-core, 2-core, 3-core, 4-core, 5-core, 3+1, 3+2, 4+1, and more.
  • Specification: 1.5 sq.ft~240 sq.ft.
  • Color: Black.
  • Copper quality: National standard oxygen-free copper (purple copper).
  • Sheath: Polyvinyl chloride PVC sheath.
  • Standard: Produced according to GB12706 “Rated Voltage 35kV Copper Core, Aluminum Wire Plastic Insulated Power Cable” standard, and customizable based on user needs.

Usage: For indoor use, cable trenches, pipelines, tunnel lights. It can also be buried in loose soil. It cannot withstand external forces and is generally used for transmitting electricity, particularly for power distribution.

General rated voltage: (UO/U) 0.6/1 – 26/35kV.

Use Characteristics:

  1. The maximum rated temperature of the cable is 90°C. In short circuits (lasting no more than 5 seconds), the maximum temperature of the cable conductor must not exceed 250°C.
  2. The ambient temperature when laying the cable should not be lower than 0°C.
  3. The allowable bending radius when laying:
    • Single-core cable: less than 15 times the outer diameter of the cable.
    • Multi-core cable: less than 10 times the outer diameter of the cable.

YC Cable

YC Rubber Cable is a heavy-duty general-purpose rubber cord. This cable is suitable for AC rated voltage 450V/750V for household appliances, power tools, and mobile electrical equipment. It is also used on construction sites where it can withstand large mechanical forces. The long-term allowable working temperature of the wire core should not exceed 60°C.

  • Y stands for rubber insulated.
  • C stands for heavy-duty cable.

The sheath inside is also rubber-insulated, and the conductor is copper wire. Rubber cables are categorized into heavy-duty cables (YC cables), medium-duty cables (YZ cables), and light-duty cables (YQ cables).

YC cable insulation is usually made of pure natural rubber, and the conductor is made from high-quality, oxygen-free copper rods. However, many products on the market today may not meet this quality standard.

YC Cable Models: YC cables are mainly multi-core, commonly available in 2-core, 3-core, 4-core, and 5-core options. The copper core area ranges from 0.75 sq.ft. to dozens of square feet.
